Ugandaโs coffee exports for the year ending October 2025 increased to 8.4 million 60-kilogramme bags valued at 2.4 billion dollars, the highest the country has ever earned. The coffee exports increased from 5.8 million bags worth 1.3 billion dollars the previous year.
The coffee performance is contained in the October report by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries.
The coffee export figures are higher than Ethiopiaโs 7.82 million bags in 2024/25, making Uganda the number one exporter on the African continent.
The growth was driven by a sharp increase in arabica exports, which more than doubled on account of improved quality and demand. Robusta coffee exports increased by 31 percent in volume and 19 percent in value.
Ugandaโs coffee export market remained in Europe, accounting for 63 percent of all exports, with Italy as the biggest importer of Ugandan coffee, accounting for 26.22 percent of shipments, followed by Germany (10.67%), Algeria (7.49%), India (6.62%), and Switzerland (4.94%). The top 10 destinations accounted for 74.66% of shipments.
The African market accounted for 108,540 bags (16%), with key buyers including Algeria, Sudan, Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa, Kenya, and Egypt.
The coffee sector presents vast investment opportunities, including in value addition.
While Ethiopia commands premium prices for its specialty arabica coffee, Uganda is catching up and also registering consistent growth in export earnings.
