Nigerian companies express interest in investing in Uganda

At least 23 Nigerian companies have shown interest in investing in Uganda.

According to Dr Sam Omara, the officer in charge of economic and commercial diplomacy at Uganda’s High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, the 23 companies have already been registered by the embassy.

The scale of interest signals growing confidence in Uganda as an investment and business destination — and in Nigeria as a major market for Ugandan products.

Among the opportunities already being explored are a proposed US$75 million strategic partnership and plans for a fertilizer factory estimated at US$800 million.

Other areas of interest include oil and gas, textiles, financial services, ICT, fintech, manufacturing, agro-processing (coffee, dairy, horticulture, palm oil, and livestock), machinery, real estate, transport and logistics, industrial research, cement, pharmaceuticals, transport, and media services.

As Uganda and Nigeria deepen their engagement, the ambition is not simply to increase trade, but to build lasting commercial partnerships that contribute to job creation, industrial development, innovation and Africa’s economic integration under AfCFTA.

Uganda’s exports to Nigeria stands at 34.6 million dollars and mainly in tobaccos, air transport, pharmaceuticals, minerals, coffee, hides and skins, powdered milk, palm oil, fish, stone and glass.
