Uganda Oil Update – Progress Towards First Oil

By David Rupiny

Uganda’s petroleum projects continue to make significant progress.

As of the end of June 30th, 2026, Tilenga was at 74% complete, with 234 wells drilled, exceeding the minimum of 170 wells required for production.

Kingfisher has reached 79% completion, with the Central Processing Facility and feeder pipeline nearing completion.

The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) stands at 90% overall progress, with more than 1,443 km of pipeline welded across Uganda and Tanzania.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Refinery Project continues to advance, with pre-Final Investment Decision technical studies reaching 28% completion. This is as of end of June 2026.

These milestones demonstrate steady progress towards Uganda’s first oil and the development of the infrastructure needed to commercialise the country’s petroleum resources.
