One hundred mid-sized companies that made in 2023’s Top 100 Survey received accolades at a colourful gala dinner in Kampala.
This year’s winner (also 2022 winner) is Sunpower Sustainable Energy Limited, owned by Jonathan Bukenya, and followed by northern Uganda-based Awico Engineering Company and Plam Construction, which emerge second and third respectively.
Two companies, Pinnacle Security and Birya United Agencies, graduated into Club 101 after their annual turnover is surpassed the 25-billion-shilling ($6.7m) mark.
The annual survey is a collaboration between Uganda Investment Authority, dfcu Bank, audit firm KPMG, and Daily Monitor newspaper.
State Minister for Trade and Industry, David Bahati, who presided over the ceremony, said he was have that 30 percent of the mid-sized companies are in Manufacturing, 20 percent in Construction, 18 percent in Agriculture, while the rest are in Services, indicating big strides being made in investments in the sectors.
Minister Bahati challenged the companies to go beyond Uganda to markets like the East African Community, the African continental market, the United States and European Union.
He said the Government, through UIA and Uganda Revenue Authority, provides a number of tax and non-tax incentives that the companies need to take up.
The Chief Executive Officer of dfcu Bank, Charles Muduwa, said the companies may look small today but with clear vision, perseverance, and focus, they will be business giants of tomorrow.
