The State Minister for Labour, Employment, and Industrial Relations Minister, Daviana Esther Anyakun, on October 3, 2024, engaged with Investors on how to ensure decent jobs and working conditions in Uganda’s industrial parks.
The tripartite engagement involving government agencies, investors, and industrial workers/trade unions, took place in Namanve Industrial Park.
In her address, Minister Anyakun stressed the need for industrial development to go side-by-side with decent jobs and better employee working conditions.
The minister said issues like child labour, poor pay, employment contracts, leave, employee rights, employee insurance, workman’s compensation, social security, and tax (pay as you earn) should be prioritized.
Uganda Investment Authority’s acting Director for Industrial Parks Development, Christine Nagasha, said the authority takes the issue of industrial park development and decent employment seriously which is why “we engage Investors on several social issues so we keep improving our performance”.
