French Chamber of Commerce launches first-ever “French Week” in Uganda

By Catherine Kahubire and Shamim Saad

In a rapidly changing world, individuals and businesses aim for stability and growth by fostering connectivity to achieve sustainable success.

Since its inception in 2024, the French Chamber of Commerce Uganda (FCCU) has been strategically committed to fostering economic ties between France and Uganda.

In light of the substantial accomplishments achieved in the past year, FCCU is keen on strengthening these economic bilateral relations by hosting “The French Week 2025”.

This very first edition is structured around 3 key events to celebrate:

• Networking with a golf tournament: Sunday 11th May

• Business with a forum dedicated to AI and Digitalization: Wednesday 14th May

• Culture and Gastronomy with Dinner: Saturday17th May

This Week brings together French and Ugandan companies, government, youth, and global stakeholders to discuss new digital technologies, digitization, and the future of AI.

This will serve as a useful tool for assisting partners and players in increasing their business capabilities while also offering new channels for opportunities within the complexities of a globalized and technologically driven society; 150 guests are expected to partake.

The Golf Tournament is aimed at fostering networking on May 11 at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.

The Economic Forum will feature panels on digital transformation in Uganda, AI for business growth: opportunities and challenges, regulatory frameworks, and ethical AI.

Representatives from the European Union, Uganda’s Ministry of ICT, Uganda Communications Commission, and Uganda Investment Authority will participate.

Discussions will also involve financial institutions like Ecobank, telecoms MTN, and French companies like TotalEnergies and Rubis Energies, among others.

In collaboration with sponsors, FCCU will conclude the week by celebrating the rich culinary traditions of France and Uganda, with a fusion of French and Ugandan cuisine Experience on May 17, 2025.

Attendees will have the opportunity to indulge in a diverse array of gastronomic delights aimed at fostering cultural exchange and appreciation, highlighting the shared passion for food and the role it plays in connecting people across borders.

There is no doubt that the Week serves a crucial purpose of connecting pioneering industry companies from France with potential investors and strategic partners in Uganda, fostering collaboration between the ecosystems of both countries.

ABOUT FCCU

The French Chamber of Commerce in Uganda is the first Chamber of Commerce representing a European Union country in Uganda.

The Chamber has over 70 members, of which half are French companies and the other half are Ugandan companies.

In 2023, the capital expenditure of sixteen private French companies amounted to approximately USD 1.6 billion, which represents more than 50% of FDI inflow into Uganda. This statistic, therefore, positions the French private sector as one of the leading investors in Uganda.

Over the course of three years, French companies are projected to invest more than USD 4 billion in the country by the end of 2027.
