Uganda Government through the Uganda Investment Authority is in the final stages of concluding the mapping and titling of 10sq Km of land located in Katosi about 40Kms from Kampala to be allocated to Hunan Lugu International Medical Device Industrial Park Ltd. (HAIPING GROUP) for the development of the Hunan-Uganda Industrial Park.
The Industrial Park development is one of the five Memoranda of Understanding (MoU’s) under the framework cooperation agreement between Uganda and Hunan Province of the People’s Republic of China that were signed during the Official Working visit of H.E President Yoweri Museveni to the People’s Republic of China in June 2019 as the Guest of Honor at the official opening of the first-ever China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE), one of the initiatives of President Xi Jinping under the Forum of China-Africa Cooperation( FOCAC).
According to the main developers (HAIPING GROUP), they plan to invest about $1.8billion USD in the Integrated Industrial Park that will include Agricultural processing, Agricultural Machinery, Clothing and Textile, Building materials, Electronics, Logistics and Medicines/Pharmaceutical Industries. The Industrial Park once completed is expected to create up to 400,000 jobs directly and about 1,000,000 indirectly.
