Commissioning of Alfsan Uganda Limited at KIBP

On 21st April 2016, Mr. Hamza Galiwango the Director of Lands Development Division and Ms Hope Wairah , Senior Investment Executive , Investment Promotion Division attended the commissioning of Alfsan Uganda Limited, a company incorporated in 2009 for the purpose of manufacturing veterinary pharmaceuticals and other animal health products. Alfsan (U) Ltd is a joint venture project by Alfsan Nederland B.V (Netherlands), Cygnus B.V (Netherlands, Qualivet B.V(Belguim) and Farm Support Ltd(Uganda).

The foundation stone of Alfsan (U) Ltd  was laid by H.E the President, Y.K. Museveni on 11 April 2013, in the Kampala Industrial and Business Park. The factory estimated to cost USD 13.6 million, had an actual cost of USD 23 million , the increase occasioned by terrain conditions in the Park. The commissioning has been graced by H.E the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands, Hon. Tress Bucyanayindi (Minister for Agriculture), Hon Aston Kajara (State Minister for Privatization), Hon Syda Bumba, Uganda Development Bank Ltd Board Chair and staff,  and other dignitaries.

The project is envisioned to create 120 immediate direct jobs, and over 2,000 jobs in the projected three years. Besides employment creation, Alfsan (U) Ltd establishment will cause further foreseen benefits from the factory, such as technology transfer, cheaper costs of quality veterinary medicines, increase in national income and increased contribution of livestock to GDP. Other expected benefits include training, capacity building, quality of products on the market and increased foreign exchange earnings from the external markets.

The full project will be established in a phased approach.The 1st phase commissioned today will manufacture powders, the 2nd phase will manufacture Acaricides, while the 3rd phase will manufacture injectables
