UIA applauded for the Fight against Fistula Contribution

This morning, during the appreciation ceremony at the Bulange, Mengo,  Owek.  Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katiikiro (Prime Minister) of the Buganda Kingdom, thanked all the private sector companies and government entities, of which Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and the Prime Minister’s Office were among, for all their contributions and participation in the Kabaka Run.

The Kabaka Run, which is now an annual event in its third year, was organized to champion the Fight against Fistula. The Management and Staff of UIA contributed their personal money to this cause and a team of staff participated in the mini marathon run, which took place on 10th April 2016, beginning from the Kabaka’s palace round the Kampala city centre and back.

Katikiro Mayiga urged men, particularly husbands, to be at the fore front of fighting against fistula by supporting the women who find themselves in this predicament. He said, the men ought to take part of the responsibility. He also encouraged women who find themselves with this problem, not to isolate themselves or be isolated but they should seek help and be helped.

He credited the Kabaka of Buganda for directing the Cabinet of Buganda Ministers to explore how to deal with this problem. He was particularly appreciative of the efforts of Kitovu hospital, to whom the Kingdom presented a cheque of Uganda shillings seventy million (70,000,000/-) out of the proceeds of the Run. He encouraged affected women to seek for treatment at Kitovu hospital, which had helped women from all over Uganda. The hospital is located in Masaka.

Sheila K Mugyenzi, Deputy Director, Communications and PR, represented the Executive Director at the appreciation ceremony.
