The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has been awarded the prestigious Excellence Award in Sustainability by the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA).
The award recognized UIA’s contribution to sustainability and local linkages through promoting green and inclusive investments aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The award was presented at the 28th World Investment Conference (WIC) held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in late 2024.
WAIPA is a global, non-governmental organization established in 1995. It has over 130 member organizations, including national, regional, and local investment promotion agencies.
WAIPA is a platform for investment promotion agencies to collaborate, share knowledge, and promote best practices in attracting foreign direct investment.
The association supports its members by providing training, research, and networking opportunities and advocating for the critical role of IPAs in fostering sustainable economic development.
The new WAIPA accolade adds to a growing number of prestigious investment awards UIA has garnered in the last few years. They include, amongst others:
- The Go Global Award in Rhodes Island USA in November 2023 where Uganda Investment Authority was given an award as the greatest investment catalyst in the World;
- Best investment destination in Africa in 2023 by Annual Investment Meeting;
- Best investment destination in East Africa in 2022 – for attracting the best investment project (Modern Tiles) by Annual Investment Meeting;
- UIA as the best investment promotion agency in East Africa in 2022 by the Annual Investment Meeting;
- Recognition by the African Development Bank of Uganda as being among the top 10 countries for industrial development in Africa.
