The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is a semi-autonomous government agency operating in partnership with the private sector and the Government of Uganda to drive national economic growth and development. The Authority was set up by an Act of Parliament (Investment Code 1991, which was later revised to the Edition 2000 Laws of Uganda) 2019 with the aim of promoting and facilitating private sector investment in Uganda.
The ability of the Authority to fulfill its mandate primarily lies in the way in which its Human Resource is managed from the point of entry, stay, exit and post-exit. It is a policy of UIA to attract and retain a highly qualified and competitive workforce to fulfill its mandate and hence the need to fill the vacant positions.
UIA seeks to recruit highly-skilled, experienced, and motivated qualified individuals to fill the following position:
PROJECT ARCHITECT
Reporting
The Project Architect shall report to the Project Engineer.
Liaises with the Owner’s Engineer and other relevant project stakeholders.
Purpose of the job
The Project Architect shall supervise and ensure that all project architectural related activities comply with project and statutory requirements.
Key areas of focus
- Project architectural designs;
- Construction of buildings as per approved architectural designs;
- Inspections and acceptance of project structural deliverables.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
The project Engineer shall be expected to carry out the following duties and responsibilities;
- Advise the Project Engineer on architectural matters on the project;
- Ensure that UIA’s interests are protected in the architectural and technical studies, designs and construction phases of all project infrastructure;
- In consultation with the Project Engineer, review all architectural requirements including but not limited to plan layouts, designs, structural specifications and costs from the Owner’s Engineer.
- Inspect project building sites and ensure that construction is as per approved architectural designs;
- In consultation with the Project Engineer, review and advice on all proposed project architectural changes or variations and ensure that all approved project architectural changes or variations are implemented;
- Participate in the preparation of all periodic monitoring and performance reports as per the project reporting requirements;
- Ensure that all project architectural documentation is maintained.
- Facilitate the securing of requisite permits and approvals in relation to architectural and statutory requirements.
- Any other duties that may be assigned.
Outputs
The Project Architect’s measurable outputs shall include;
- Approved Project deliverables as per architectural designs such as approved architectural designs;
- Project architectural documentation;
- Project Permits and approvals such as architectural and structural plans from the local authorities of Wakiso and Mukono among others;
- Project periodic performance and monitoring reports.
Qualifications
The Project Architect shall possess a minimum of the following;
- A Master’s degree in architectural studies, Construction Management and Urban Planning.
- An honors Bachelor’s degree in architectural studies.
- Registration with the Architects Registration Board is a MUST.
Experience
The Project Architect shall possess a minimum of the following;
- Must have at least 5+ years’ work experience in supervision and management of projects post registration with Architects Registration Board.
- Proof of experience in working in complex civil works environments, particularly in the field of construction supervision and management.
- Proof of experience in implementation of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) projects.
- Proof of experience in contract management, project management, research, strategic theme development, procurement, and programming-related work.
- Proof of experience in working on large infrastructure projects will be an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to work with minimal supervision with strong organizational skills;
- Report writing and oral communication skills.
- Must be results-oriented, a team player, exhibiting high levels of enthusiasm, tact, diplomacy and integrity.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and professional skills in interacting with investors, government and development partners.
- Project management skills.
- Attention to detail skills.
- Openness to change and ability to manage complexities.
Competencies with MS (Office, Project and Visio) and other professional software such as Tilos, Micro station, Archi CAD, and Adobe Acrobat Pro are a MUST.
